This is an original family recipe that my dad likes to make every time we have a Puerto Rican dish. My family will sometimes eat tostones with mayo-ketchup or Adobo Goya.
Ingredients:
3 green plantains
4 cups of water
2 tablespoons of salt
Vegetable oil
Steps:
Add salt to a bowl of water.
Peel plantains and cut into diagonal slices 1-inch thick. Soak plantain slices in water after each cut for ~15 minutes.
Drain well and deep-fry in vegetable oil, about 7 minutes.
Remove from pan and place on absorbent paper.
Fold the paper over slices and pound flat with the a tostonera or the palm of your hand.
Dip in the salted water again and remove immediately. Drain thoroughly on absorbent paper.
Deep fry in vegetable oil until crip and golden. Remove and drain on absorbent paper.
